The Memorial Day is celebrated on the 1st of May each year, being the day our first patient was admitted to the Inpatient facility. It is dedicated to our patients and their families, past and present. World Hospice Day is a unified day ofaction to celebrate & support hospice & palliative care around the world. It iscelebrated to create awareness of the Hospice Movement, raise funds and continue to make a difference in the lives of those in need of Palliative care. 01-November-08Deutsche Bank sponsored a grand Diwali celebration for the patients and staff. 03-November-08Mrs.Hema Shyam joined as the General Manager and Dr.Sadanand Gopal as the Medical Superintendant. 14-November-08The Rotary Club of Bangalore felicitated Rose Mary from Housekeeping with the “Pride of Workmanship” award. 01-January-09Volunteer Chandini celebrated New Year with the patients and also startedher project with the patients. The project (Joy of a Life time) is to bring joy into the last few days/weeks in the life of a Patient. It is designed to help patients and their loved ones shift focus from their pain, suffering and fear of the inevitable and to create light hearted activities. These include drawing, painting and various games where even patients confined to wheelchairs can easily participate and are actively encouraged and motivated to do so. This has received a happy response from the patients. 24-January-09Book Release function of Mrs.Mamatha Shetty’s book “Leaves from the Book of Life”. Mamatha is a volunteer counsellor at Karunashraya. The event was well attended and many copies of the book were sold. 01-February-09Aamir Khan, Actor, visited the Hospice and spent almost 2 hours at Karunashraya. He spent time with patients and the nurses, which was cherished by them. 08-February-09Workshop for Cardiff students held. Faculty from Cardiff and some of the long distance students from India, Srilanka and Bangladesh took part. 11-February-09Fidelity’s Day of Charity – Total collections through donations from their staff Rs.1.22 lakhs. 13-February-09 to 15-February-09The 16th International Conference of the Indian Association of Palliative Care was held at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. The objective of the conference was to update knowledge in Palliative Care & the theme of the conference was "Freedom From Pain". Our chairman Dr S.N Simha & Srs Jose Mary & Florina and our counsellor Poornima attended the conference. Dr Simha has been elected the All India Chairman for this year. 06-March-09 & 07-March-09Workshop at NIMHANS: ‘Dealing with Emotions in Patient Care’.
